There are many warning signs of lung cancer—however, plenty of these signs can result from various other ailments, some more serious than others. Other lung issues—such as Arikayce Ntm lung disease—could be to blame. Still, if you find out that you or your loved one has lung cancer, there are many treatment options available. Some of these include immunotherapy for non small cell lung cancer, Ros1 lung cancer treatment, Nivolumab, and small cell lung cancer treatments. Additionally, Biomarker Assays testings for Nsclc can be undergone to determine any abnormalities within the DNA of the tumor. Ret Sclc clinical trials have also taken place to work towards a cure. Before any treatment options should be considered, however, it’s important to know some of the common warning signs of lung cancer:
1. Hemoptysis
Coughing up blood—or hemoptysis—can be a warning sign of lung cancer and is quite serious. Likewise, coughing up rust-colored sputum—a thick mucus that is created in the lungs—is serious as well and should be addressed immediately. It’s crucial to seek the advice of a medical professional as soon as possible, whether or not the underlying cause is lung cancer, since hemoptysis is concerning regardless.
2. Voice hoarseness
Many different ailments, illnesses, and conditions—including respiratory related troubles such as laryngitis—can result in voice hoarseness. However, it’s also a warning sign of lung cancer because it might be related to a tumor in the lung putting pressure on the recurrent laryngeal nerve. If you find that you or your loved one is experiencing a persistent hoarse voice that isn’t improving even after a few weeks, lung cancer could be the root cause. Thus, it’s important to consult with a medical professional.
3. Recurring cough
While the root cause of a bothersome cough can be something as mundane as a cold, a cough that only grows worse over time or refuses to go away can be a cause for greater concern. Since coughing allows the lungs to clear the airway of harmful objects and potential germs, something serious could be occurring if a cough sticks around for weeks or months. Additionally, a recurring cough that’s associated with hemoptysis can indicate an even bigger issue, such as lung cancer.
4. Swelling of the face or neck
There are many reasons why you may find yourself swollen in the face or neck area. A tumor blocking a lymph node or blood vessel can be one of these reasons, which is why it’s likely beneficial to consult with a medical professional if you feel that the swelling is abnormal or a cause for larger concern.
5. Wheezing
For those with lung cancer, breathing can create a whistling or wheezing sound if there is a tumor that obstructs the airway. While wheezing can be a normal part of physical activity—after doing a strenuous exercise, for instance—wheezing that occurs often or abnormally might be good to get evaluated by a medical professional.
